I arrived in Shanghai yesterday afternoon (or early in the morning, Boston time), without any hiccups. We flew over the north pole to get here, and luckily my window seat was facing south so I had a beautiful view of perpetual sunrise as we flew over the dark ices on top of the globe.
Before passing out at 7:30 (thank you, jet lag), I managed to do a short trip around my neighbourhood in the Bund, and pick up some delicious orange juice and fried dumplings (Shengjianbao). These are, by far, the best dumplings I’ve ever had. Coated in sesame seeds and caramelized onions, a very non-vegetarian minced pork filling, and dripping in magical oil. They are crunchy on the bottom, and soft on top. Oh my, Shanghai.
